The tour began with a preview date at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec before officially commencing at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Occurrences
There have been four separate incidents of fans rushing the stage while Shakira was performing on stage. The third of these rushers fell over on her way to Shakira. Shakira has gained both criticism and praise for helping the fan up and giving her a hug before security escorted her out. The first stage rush did not end so happily however, and the man got rugby tackled on the stage by security before being escorted off. Background
In November 2009, Shakira announced a contest to feature unsigned bands and/or singers to be featured as an opening act for her upcoming tour. The tour was officially announced in May 2010 with dates in North America. The singer describes the tour as being "energetic" and "interactive" stating,"It's going to have themes and there'll be a lot of audience interaction. My live show will have a lot of that - a lot of dancing, a joie de vivre. I feel such freedom on stage. It's such a rush to be performing. I like to see everybody's faces on stage, to see the reaction. [...] So you'll see a lot of [my] energy... but there are also going to be other moments that I hope are artistically energetic. I want people to feel things up close," she finished.
