History

Origin of the town

Kutno is a very old settlement. There is a possibility that origin of the town could have taken place in a half of the XIIth century. It is mentioned in a document concerning an endowment of Łęczyca prepositure published due to a consecration of the collegiate church in Łęczyca in year 1161.

According to the urban legend, town and parish has come into being in 1250, although there is no document which proves that. Most probably town has come into being at the turn of the XIIth and XIVth century, its name has appeared for the first time in a document from the 1301. The document had been published for his son Ziemysław by Leszek, Przemysł and Kazimierz – duke of Kuyavia
