gives the opportunity to the freeskiing community to share and exchange their passion for the sport by attending film screenings and other activities. It is also an event which promotes directors and athletes alongside the general public. There is no equivalent event in the world.

IF3 Team

The birth of IF3 came from a common idea shared by Félix Rioux, JF DuRocher and Doug Bishop in March 2007. Thanks to the brands, producers and athletes from the ski industry, the first edition of IF3 took place in September 2007. In 2009, after the third edition of the festival, Bishop left the team to concentrate on Newschoolers.com and other projects.

Nowadays, Félix and JF work together, with Rioux as the President of the festival, in charge of administration, programming and branding

Four months before the event, additional staff members are brought on to the project, including Charles Boileau, Philippe Benjamin, Jason Woolf, Charles Mercier, LP Sansfaçon and Jeff Schmuck.

First edition

, with the premieres of 11 professional and five amateur films at Cinema L’Imperial in Montreal. The event focused on the cream of the crop of the freeskiing film industry, but also on the strong presence of amateur filmmakers. The audience gave a warm welcome to the first edition.

Evolution

Every year the festival grows and develops new concepts such as free outdoor screenings. The number of screenings and activities at the festival began to take more and more importance and time over the years, and as a result, the length of the festival was extended. New film categories have also been added in recent years to adapt with the development of the freeskiing world, social networks and the web. This mainly refers to the Webisode category, which first appeared at the 2010 edition of the festival, which was prompted by the success of various web edits posted by athletes and producers online. This award for Best Webisode was determined by the public after they voted for their favorite webisode series on www.newschoolers.com.

The success of IF3 Montreal contributed to its evolution in 2010 when Annecy

The parties

Themed parties are organized by the festival in association with its partners in addition to the festival’s screenings. Music is an important part of IF3 as it is strongly linked to the films but also the parties during the festival. Over the years numerous artists have performed during the festival.
