Unlike the Miss America Pageant, there is no swimwear component of the competition: delegates compete in interview, evening gown, sportswear and talent.

Each titleholder has her own platform which she supports throughout the state during her reign. Kayla Batt's platform is music education. The travel involved in the titleholder's schedule is relatively costly, so fundraising schemes are developed to meet the cost of appearances and involvement in the national pageant.

Kayla Batt, Miss Nebraska's Outstanding Teen 2007 was the first titleholder from the Nebraska Panhandle, and her sister titleholder Ashley Bauer was also the first Miss Nebraska from the panhandle since 1971.
