Talloires Network
Encyclopedia
The Talloires Network is an international association of institutions committed to strengthening the civic roles and social responsibilities of higher education. These institutions work together to implement the recommendations of the Talloires Declaration on the Civic Roles and Social Responsibilities of Higher Education
. As of October 28, 2009, 143 colleges and universities have signed the Declaration and are members of the Talloires Network.
Members of the Talloires Network participate in a global project, "Literacy: the Heart of Education for All." Contributions have ranged from expanding tutoring services in local communities to supporting computer literacy centers.
The Talloires Network is funded primarily by Tufts University
, as well as by grants from foundations. In 2005, Innovations in Civic Participation
, a non-profit organization that supports the development of youth civic engagement policies and programs, was named the secretariat of the Talloires Network.
