Land Force Western Area
Encyclopedia
Land Force Western Area is one of four operational commands of the Canadian Army. LFWA is responsible for all Canadian Army administration and operations in western Canada from the Pacific Ocean to Thunder Bay, Ontario
. LFWA is headquartered at CFB Edmonton
in Edmonton, Alberta.
LFWA comprises three Reserve Force Brigade Groups, one Regular Force
Mechanized Brigade Group, one Area Support Group, Western Area Training Centre and CFB Suffield
. There area more than 6,000 regular force and 5,700 reserve force members, and 1,200 civilian employees under Land Force Western Area's command.
The current commanding Officer of Land Force Western Area is Brigadier-General P.F. Wynnyk, OMM, CD
Commanders of Land Force Western Area also act as the Commander of Joint Task Force West, which coincides with Canada Command (CANADACOM)
