Purpose

IIMSAM has been established through two international agreements that are recognized in the UN Treaty Series. IIMSAM is accredited as a Permanent Intergovernmental Observer with the United Nations Economic and Social Council

IIMSAM strives to make Spirulina, an edible micro-algae a key driver to eradicate malnutrition, achieve food security and bridge the health divide in order to secure the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The Spirulina Nutritional Initiatives and other affirmative action programmes of the organization have a special priority for the developing and the least developed countries.

Spirulina Nutritional Initiatives

  • H.R.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan IIMSAM Spirulina Feeding Centre, Kenya - In August 2011, the centre provided emergency Spirulina aid to counter malnutrition and hunger prevalent in the Northern Kenya-Somalia region affected by famine and drought.

In the past, IIMSAM has been quite active to provide relief in various emergency situations such as in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti
