This is a list of Canada's 308 federal electoral districts (commonly called ridings in Canadian English
) as defined by the 2003 Representation Order, which came into effect on May 23, 2004.
Federal electoral districts
are constituencies that elect Members of Parliament
to Canada
's House of Commons
every election. Provincial electoral districts may have similar names with different geographic boundaries. Canadians elected members for each federal electoral district most recently in the 2011 federal election on Monday, May 2, 2011.
Four ridings established by the British North America Act in 1867 are still in existence: Beauce (Quebec
), Halifax (Nova Scotia
), Shefford (Quebec
), and Simcoe North (Ontario
).
On October 27, 2011, the Conservative government tabled Bill C-20, a measure that would expand the House of Commons to 338 seats, with 15 new seats for Ontario, 6 new seats for Alberta and British Columbia, and 3 for Quebec. This follows two previous measures to expand the chamber from its current size
