However, in 2004, while working as a bookkeeper at Marilyn's Cabaret, Kevin was wrongly accused of electrocuting Brittany Hodges. Desperate to avoid jail time, Kevin turned to his half-brother, Michael, for help. They were soon joined by their mother, Gloria, after Kevin ran away back home to Detroit, fearing that he would be sent to jail. Gloria decided to return with Kevin and Michael after Michael made a deal with the police. Later, Kevin was sent to prison, where he was beaten to a pulp by cellmates because they knew that he committed statutory rape.

He threatened to commit suicide. Michael talked Kevin out of killing himself, and he and Lauren agreed to be friends. He and Gloria then moved in with Michael and drove him crazy at every turn. Kevin was furious upon discovering that Michael was dating Lauren behind his back. This discovery prompted him to challenge Michael to a boxing match, where they competed for Lauren's love. During the match, Kevin finally released all the anger he felt towards his abusive father, and Michael apologized for not being there for him more as they grew up. Kevin eventually got over his obsession with Lauren and became very happy for Michael's relationship with her.

Later, Kevin befriended Daniel Romalotti, who just returned to Genoa City from boarding school. A jealous Gloria asked Kevin to help get rid of the nurse, and he agreed, only to find himself immediately attracted to her. He then discovered that she was just using him to get a green card to stay in the country. He preyed on her superstitious beliefs and scared her away from Genoa City. Gloria and John reunited, and John came to accept Kevin and Michael as his family. . However, this assumption proved to be wrong, as Jana planned out the kidnappings. Jana "escaped" from the refrigerator where she and Colleen were held, and she managed to get Kevin to the fridge, where she held him and Colleen at bay with a taser, while confessing to Carmen's murder and the kidnappings. Kevin was shocked, saying that he thought that she loved him. Jana said she used Kevin, and then she fell for him. Jana then locked Kevin and Colleen in the fridge, and she proceeded to set the building on fire. She planted Kevin's driver's license by Colleen's car, trying to make it look as though Kevin kidnapped and attempted to kill Colleen in the same manner as he did years before, only he locked himself in there by mistake. After several unsuccessful breakout attempts, Kevin and Colleen passed out from the smoke. They were rescued by J.T. and Adrian Korbel, who fell for Jana's plan. Just as this was happening, Colleen woke up and revealed the truth. After Kevin woke up, the two forgave each other and became friends.  asked Kevin if her cousin, Garrett, could stay with him for a while, he reluctantly agreed. "Garrett" was really Amber's ex-boyfriend, Plum, who was blackmailing her with nude photos. After continuously being threatened by Plum, Amber, along with Kevin and Daniel, discovered him dead after an accidental fall. As Amber scrambled for the device containing the nude photos that Plum had, the three stumbled across a bag full of money. Because Kevin desperately needed cash to find Jana and get his revenge, he agreed that they should keep it. After both Kevin and Daniel's homes were broken into and Amber was kidnapped by the people in search of the money, the trio had no choice but to come clean. After Amber was rescued, they were all arrested and released on bail. In the midst of all their scandal with Plum, Kevin teamed up with Colleen to track down Jana after she began contacting him, expressing how sorry that she was. Kevin decided to play with her feelings for him to lure her back. He deliberately smashed his car into a tree and ended up in the hospital. His plan worked, as Jana agreed to meet him in a nearby warehouse. He then pulled a gun on her and attempted to kill her, but Michael, Colleen and Daniel talked him out of it.

As she was about to be arrested, Jana had a seizure, and she found out that a brain tumor was the culprit that caused her deranged behavior. At first, Kevin doubted her symptoms, but he eventually fell back in love with her, which led him to blackmail Gloria about her involvement in the "Glow-Again Scandal" to help pay for Jana's surgery. After the surgery, 99% of Jana's tumor was removed. As Kevin and Jana envisioned their life together, Jana worried that the tumor would come back and make her evil again. She told Kevin that they should not be together. Kevin received some good news after Michael managed to get him, Daniel and Amber two years probation, community service and no jail time. No sooner did Kevin dodge one bullet, he could not resist helping his mother get revenge against Jack Abbott, his stepbrother, by leaking video footage of Jack admitting that he illegally owned Jabot, as he was forbidden to purchase it after the "tainted cream disaster", which was started by Gloria.

Kevin proposed to Jana on Thanksgiving Day. Although she initially said no, Kevin gave her time to contemplate her decision. As he continued his campaign to free Jana, he was pleasantly surprised when A.D.A. Heather Stevens

Dealings with Katherine Chancellor and Psychiatric Evaluation

The guru who married them was actually Michael's father, River Baldwin. 's stock, once Gloria promised a huge payday for them. After Gloria noticed Katherine's memory lapses, she asked for Kevin's help to take advantage of her by hot-wiring Katherine's car so that she would think she forgot where she put it. Kevin also printed documents for her to sign her stock over to Gloria, making Katherine believe that she had agreed to do so due to a fake phone call that Kevin created.

In the midst of all of this, Kevin became increasingly interested in having access to the money that Gloria promised him. Soon after, Kevin discovered a large sum of money in Katherine's purse that she left at the coffeehouse. He wrestled with the decision of whether or not to return it, saying that he wanted to lavish Jana with expensive gifts. However, Jana made it clear that all they needed was each other. Kevin then decided to call Katherine and tell her that he had the money. Still, Katherine did not answer the phone. Her look-alike, Marge Cotroke, answered instead. Katherine agreed to help Marge with her drinking problem by paying for her stay in a rehab center, which was what the money that Kevin found was for. Once Katherine got her phone back, she called for Kevin to meet her at her house, but on the way, she and Marge got into a car accident. Kevin's weird behavior after finding the money was quickly noticed by Amber, who became convinced that Kevin did something to Katherine. After spending some of the money on a gift for Jana and other expenses, she discovered the bag of cash at the coffeehouse. While she told him many times to stop spending it, he refused, saying that no one else knew about it, and he considered it to be "finders keepers."

Jana's "new age" way of thinking made her believe that the guilt over having the money was torturing Kevin, so she gave it to Micheal's dad, going by the name of Lowell instead of River, for the Ashram. Lowell was then revealed to be a con man, who took the money in hopes of going on the run. Kevin was furious with Jana for what she did. Jana felt awful for upsetting Kevin, but once she and Kevin discovered that the money was hidden in Michael's half-sister, Eden Baldwin's teddy bear, they decided to steal it back. While breaking into Nick and Phyllis' house, the two were discovered by Michael, who helped them out. Once Kevin told him the truth, Michael immediately told him to return the money. Kevin then recalled that while visiting Gloria, who was in jail at the time, he noticed a woman who resembled Katherine. After visiting her, he believed Marge's story and gave the remaining money to her friend, Patrick Murphy, to get her out of jail. Murphy then returned the remaining sum to Kevin, who then gave it to Michael to represent Katherine. Amber was still convinced that Kevin murdered Katherine, and she attempted to have him arrested. She then came to realize that Kevin did not commit the murder when she saw Katherine walk into the coffeehouse. Amber then apologized, and she tried to find Katherine to help her regain her memory.

Once Amber found Katherine, she was convinced that it was really her, and she, Kevin, Jana and Daniel all agreed to help her get her life back. They discovered that her identity can be proven if her antique ring was found that she wore during the car crash. The foursome then broke into a pawn shop where she pawned it a few months before, and they got the ring back. A court-ordered DNA test that Michael arranged for Jill, Katherine's supposed daughter, and Katherine came back negative; everyone still believed that Katherine was dead with the exception of Kevin and Amber. Katherine was then kidnapped by conman Clint Radison, who was responsible for posing Marge as Katherine twenty years earlier. As Clint and his accomplices, Roger and Annie Wilkes, held Katherine and her maid, Esther Valentine

, hostage in a motel, Kevin and Amber managed to track them down.

After being tricked into the room by Clint, Kevin was drugged. The three of them then took photos of Kevin holding a bomb while he was high on the drugs to make it seem as if he was planning to blow up the motel with Katherine and Esther inside. They took Kevin along with them, locking him in the trunk of a car, where he was forced to relive the abuse he suffered as a child from "Terrible Tom." Meanwhile, Kay and Esther were rescued by Gloria and Amber, who arrived at the motel looking for Kevin. Once the photos of Kevin with the bomb were found by the police, Kevin became the prime suspect in the explosion. The police then discovered Kay's purse at his apartment that she left her money in and research on Kevin's computer when he hot-wired Kay's car.

While being held hostage, Kevin was drugged and ordered to rob banks. For fear of getting caught, Annie and Roger fled, and Kevin was left alone with Clint, who locked him in a closet. While watching an interview of Gloria on television, Clint learned of the abuse that Kevin suffered from his father, and he took advantage of him by claiming to be his father, which reverted Kevin back to childhood. Clint continued to force Kevin to rob banks as well. Not long after, Clint had a sudden heart attack and died. Kevin then began to suffer from Stockholm syndrome

, and he continued robbing banks without Clint. Amber soon found him, but she was taken hostage by him and forced to rob a bank with him. Once they were found, Kevin and Amber were arrested. While Amber was let go on bail, Michael managed to have Kevin admitted for psychological evaluation. Heather Stevens had Kevin put in a padded cell, where he was heavily medicated.

Romance with Chloe, Daisy's Wrath and Jana's Death

Kevin later overcame his problems, and he tried to reconnect with Jana. While Kevin was going through his own problems, Jana had her fair share of misfortunes as well: she and Lauren Fenmore were kidnapped and locked in a cage at an amusement park. Kevin was devastated to discover that Jana was having an affair with his half-brother, Ryder Callahan, after finding them in bed together.

Kevin then found a friend in Chloe Mitchell

, after he revealed to her that he had had a one-night stand with Heather Stevens. Kevin allowed Chloe and her daughter, Delia Abbott, to move into his apartment. After they talked, Kevin surprised Chloe with a silly rap that he made up and a cupcake topped with a birthday candle on it to try to cheer her up. She was grateful to him for his kind gesture and blew out the candle.

When Kevin and Chloe went to the opening of Gloria's new nightclub, Gloworm, Jana came as well to apologize to Kevin for her affair and to ask for another chance. Still hurt, Kevin refused to forgive Jana, and Chloe, ever the fashionable one, made her dislike for Jana known by dissing Jana as well as her hat. 's magazine, Restless Style. Jana became even more jealous of Kevin and Chloe when she saw them posing for pictures at Crimson Lights with Delia. Jana then took a job at Delia's preschool as an art teacher in order to keep an eye on Kevin and Chloe. The more Jana tried to keep them apart, the closer Kevin and Chloe became. Kevin was there to comfort Chloe after she found that Chance was killed after he tried to put a stop to the drug case that he was working on. Kevin struggled with his romantic feelings for Chloe, whose feelings for him remained platonic. After Chloe rejected him, Kevin fell in to the arms of none other than Jana. On December 16, 2010, Kevin and Jana reconnected, and the two had sex. However, while helping organize a church recital that featured Kevin's nephew, Fenmore Baldwin, Gloria, who was not so accepting of Jana after she cheated on her son, warned her to stay away from Kevin.

The return of Kevin's half-sister, Daisy Carter, rattled Kevin. She drugged Daniel Romalotti and had sex with him, and months later, she revealed that she was pregnant with his child. This news further enraged Kevin, who despised his half-sister. Daisy's return and the revelation of her pregnancy put a strain on Kevin and Daniel's friendship. Kevin then decided to confess his feelings to Chloe, which left her stunned. She decided to move out of Kevin's apartment, which further hurt Kevin, after he was still reeling from Daisy's scheming against his friends. In the end, Kevin stood by Daniel and agreed to support him and his child, which was also Kevin's niece.

On New Year's Eve, Kevin was at Jimmy's Bar alone when Chloe found him and professed her love for him. The two kissed at midnight, and their romantic moment was witnessed by Jana, who was driving Daisy to the hospital because she was going into labor. Beyond upset, Jana made it seem as though Daisy attacked her and stole her car, when in reality she let Daisy run off. Kevin and Chloe found Jana, upset and crying, but Jana was secretly happy that Kevin was paying more attention to her than he was to Chloe.

Daniel ran after Daisy and helped her deliver their baby girl, but she hit him in the head and knocked him unconscious, allowing herself to get away. She then left the baby in a safe house, and a couple found her, selling the baby to the black market for money. Daisy and Daniel's daughter was then adopted by Victoria

, who named her Lucy Abbott. While Kevin and Chloe's romance was stronger than ever, Jana still did her best to win Kevin back for herself. She faked memory loss and made it seem as though she believed that she and Kevin were still married. Jana's scheme caused a strain on Kevin's relationship with Chloe, but Chloe stood by him as Kevin had no choice but to play along with Jana's deranged dreams. On Valentine's Day, Kevin and Chloe had sex for the first time, thanks to both Gloria and Katherine Chancellor, who was Chloe's godmother, teaming up to play matchmaker. Jana quickly "recovered" once Chloe persuaded Kevin to gently tell Jana that they were no longer married and that she had to move out of his apartment.

Jana then got a job as the Abbott's nanny, and she discovered Lucy's true paternity, while Kevin was still looking for his niece. Jana, still wanting Kevin for herself, kidnapped Lucy and Delia, and she told Kevin that she found his niece. Kevin was happy to find out that Lucy was his niece, but then he realized that Chloe and Gloria were right about Jana's insanity and instability. He told Jana to let the girls go, which she did, but Jana proceeded to take Kevin hostage and forced him go into a closet, making him again relive "Terrible Tom's" abuse. Jana ended up dying after a fight with Chloe, who had come to rescue Kevin. They were worried that they would be frame for Jana's death. After Jana was finally at peace, Kevin focused his attention on his niece, and he gave consent for Lucy to be adopted by Billy and Victoria. Kevin was unaware that Daniel's mother, Phyllis Summers intended to have Daisy's paternal rights restored.

Kevin and Chloe's relationship continued to grow stronger, especially after they found out via Jana's autopsy report that she died of natural causes. The couple was free to flaunt their romance without Jana's jealous eyes watching them. After Jana kidnapped Delia, Chloe became angered with her ex-husband, Billy Abbott, for hiring Jana as his nanny against Chloe's wishes. She then threatened to take full custody of Delia. Kevin tried to talk Chloe out of it, telling her that Delia loved and need her father. After Chloe found out that Billy illegally bought Lucy from a black market adoption dealer, she decided that she had to take action against him. Thus, Kevin stood by Chloe as she fought for and won full custody of Delia on July 14, 2011. As Billy's life began to quickly fall apart, he could not stay in Genoa City any longer, and he abruptly left his wife and his children and went to Hong Kong. After seeing how upset Chloe was after Billy left, Kevin realized that he could not be in a relationship with Chloe when she was still hung up on her past loves. Thus, he was forced to end their relationship.
