Introduction and Relationship with Adam Newman

Heather is the daughter of Paul Williams and his first wife, April Stevens. As a child, she believes that she is actually the daughter of April's second husband, Robert Lynch. April and Heather re-enter Paul's life at the time when Robert was physically and mentally abusive towards April, and April eventually kills him in self-defense. She is put on trial and convicted of manslaughter, but allowed to fulfill her community service back in New York, so she leaves Genoa City with Heather without letting her know that Paul is her father.

Over a decade later, Heather arrives in Genoa City to assist District Attorney William Bardwell after he suffers a stroke. However, William dies shortly after and she is assigned all his cases, including the case against Jana Hawkes

When Ji Min's murderer is revealed and tied to the case of other murders, Paul allows to let his daughter take credit for finding the information, so Heather gets her job as the assistant D.A. back, which she uses to prosecute Victor again. She becomes exhausted by work and learns she has Epstein-Barr disease, but it doesn't stop her from doing her job. Heather blindly believes that Adam, who proposed to her months back, is telling her the truth regarding forging his father's diary, and is deeply hurt to learn that Adam was lying to her. She arrests Adam and decides to continue trying to find out if Victor killed Walter Palin as a part of his revenge, but this is another story that was subsequently dropped.

Adam is released from prison into Victor's custody with Heather's help because he is losing his eyesight, but actually he is fooling everyone. Heather admits to Adam that she still loves him even though he asked her to stay away from him, knowing that he could do her harm. With Ashley's persuasion, Victor allows Heather free visits to Adam's room at the ranch. Heather stays blind to the fact that Adam is conning her, but upon learning from her father that Adam had an affair with his lawyer Rafael "Rafe" Torres, Heather dumps Adam.

At the mental institution, “Patty” was visited by her brother Paul and niece Heather. She managed to slip Heather a DNA sample and begged her to help her to prove that she was really Dr. Emily Peterson, that Patty had drugged her and switched places with her.

 despite the fact that he is engaged to Chloe Mitchell, who laters confronts Heather about it after Chance tells her, resulting in her breaking off their engagement. When Heather tells Chloe that Chance was willing, Chloe calls Heather a bitch and slaps her viciously in the face, which is witnessed by Ronan Malloy.

On September 9, 2010, Nina, Paul, Chloe, and Heather rush in just as Chance was getting shot, by his half-brother Ronan Malloy. Paramedics pronounced Chance dead on the spot. Heather, along with Nina & the rest of Chance's family, is heartbroken & devastated over his death. Chloe, who still loved Chance despite their breakup, consoles Heather. The week of September 13, 2010, during Chance's funeral, Chloe blows up on Heather for showing up, seeing as she slept with him and broke up their engagement. However, Heather refuses to leave just because Chloe "can't handle it." At the funeral, Owen Pomerantz is arrested for ordering the hit on Chance and for leading the drug ring. It is revealed that Chance was wearing a wire. Heather is then promoted as District Attorney in Pomerantz's place pending an election. She vows to bring both him and Ronan to justice. Chance is later revealed to be alive to Nina and Philip by Ronan and Cricket. However, he cannot return home because he is going into witness protection. Later Victor is issued a court order to give a complete finical account of Newman Enterprises. Victor absolutely refuses and is even willing being arrested. He asked Heather to over rule the court order. In return, he will bank roll her campaign. Heather's father Paul tells her to not do this, reminding her of what Victor did to her aunt Patty Williams

Heather and Ronan began working with each other to arrest Meggie McClaine. The two later go to the Chancellor Mansion to visit Murphy. As the two leave, Ronan drops a pill that Heather picks up after him. She is suspicious and looks up the pill on the internet. She discovers that Ronan is very sick. When she confront him about it, he tells her to mind her own business and if she had good judgment, she would not have gotten fired from the district attorney's office. One night Ronan faints and Heather takes him to the emergency room. It is discovered that Ronan has a serious disease. The doctor told Ronan that he will do more test on Ronan. While Heather and Ronan were at Jimmy's, he tells Heather to keep this a secret. As the two of them were leaving, they kiss much to Chloe Mitchell

While Heather is asleep in his bed, he gets a call from the doctor saying that Ronan's test are positive and that he needs a liver transplant. Heather learns this and keeps asking Ronan ask Nina for part of her liver. Ronan is absolutely against this and tells Heather to not tell Nina about this. However, Heather tells Nina anyway much to Ronan's angry. Nina got tested to see if her her live is a match ,however, she is not.

Heather and her father listen to the tape that Chance was wearing when he was shot. Paul notices that the gun Ronan was using was not loaded, and he must have been shooting blanks. Heather later questions the paramedic that handled Chance and discovered that they were not real paramedics. Heather confronts Ronan with the information. Heather threatens to go to Restless Style Magazine if he is not honest with her. He then revels that Chance is still alive & in the witness protection program. He tells Heather that Chance only certain wanted people to know the truth on a need to know basis which does not include her. Nina and Christine Blair
