Campus

The 62 campus buildings are located on 213 acre (0.86198118 km²) in the East Stroudsburg community. In addition to the academic facilities, 7 residence halls, housing 2,200 students, and a 1,000-seat dining hall are located on campus. Along with the dining hall, the Student Union offers "Center Court": a cafeteria style dining experience featuring a variety of made-to-order meals. For those looking for a quick pick me up, the coffee shop Java City, also in the Union, offers coffee, tea and smoothie beverages, as well as a bakery. Java City is also where any Open Mic nights, comedy shows and other campus activities take place, and provides a comfortable, quieter area for students to relax between classes. The Quad

In addition, The Student Activity Association, Inc., owns Stony Acres, a 119 acre (0.48157634 km²) off-campus student recreation area near Marshalls Creek, that includes a lodge, several cabins, a campsite, recreation areas and a lake. The campus is patrolled by the East Stroudsburg University Police Department.

Buildings

Many times overlooked, the Fine and Performing arts center at the very top of campus is the main hub of the music, theater, art and communication departments. The building houses several main stages including the recital hall, a black box experimental theater, and a coliseum style performance theater. The building also contains classrooms, expansive art studios, and offices for the departments.

In 2003, ESU opened its new recreation center, the "Rec Center". This recreational facility contains an elevated indoor track, several basketball courts, racquetball rooms, various free weight

and weight machines as well as cardio machines. In addition to individual programs, there are also group fitness programs ranging from the normal (step aerobics and yoga).

In September 2006, ESU began construction on the new Science and Technology Center. The Science and Technology Center is the first new major academic building since 1979. The $40,000,000 project consists of state-of-the-art equipment and teaching facilities that is expected to stimulate economic growth and development in the area. The building houses chemistry, math, computer science, and other various science departments. With 120000 square feet (11,148.4 m²), the building includes research and classroom space, planetarium, heated celestial observation room, as well as offices for the relocated departments. The building officially opened on September 26, 2008.

Residence halls

There are eight residence halls at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania: Hawthorn Hall, Hemlock Hall, Laurel Hall, Lenape Hall, Linden Hall, Minsi Hall, Shawnee Hall, and University Apartments. All residence halls are coed by floor or wing exceptions include: Lenape and parts of Hemlock, which are coed by room and Hawthorn has three floors that are all female, and three floors that have a little bit less than half male. All but Shawnee are double rooms with two students living in one room. Shawnee Hall houses all permanent triple rooms. All rooms on campus are furnished with one desk and chair, dresser, closet/wardrobe, and one standard twin bed per student. Refrigerators (4.0 cubic foot max) and microwaves (800 watt max) are allowed in the residence halls. Each floor of every residence hall has an RA or Resident Advisor who is there to assist students with daily campus problems as well as to enforce rules.

East Stroudsburg University is well-known for temporarily tripling the freshman double rooms, in all dorms including the honors dorm Laurel. Shawnee may also be tripled, however, the rooms are suitable for three people. On average, the temporary will have the option to move out by the end of the first semester. For the 2009 Fall semester, more than half of incoming freshman were in a triple room.

There is also the University Ridge Apartments located technically off-campus. Opened 18 November 2005 and located on 400 East Browns Street, the complex houses 514 students, and was a partnership project by ESU and Capstone Development Corp. The 135 apartment rooms, each divided into 10 buildings, has four single-living bedrooms, a shared living room, two shared bathrooms, a kitchenette, and a separate washroom. The units feature central air and utility, both included in the rent. The community center provides a TV lounge, cyber lounge, meeting/study room, fitness center, game room, vending area, mailboxes and management and rental offices as well as almost 500 parking spaces. Shuttle service is offered Monday - Friday to and from the nearby ESU campus and runs roughly every 20 minutes.

The Pocono Pony offers services to Stroudsburg and surrounding areas.

The University Ridge is one of the projects planned to help ease the increasing amount of incoming freshmen, as well as remaining on-campus students.

Vocal Performing Arts

The ESU vocal performing arts department is a very active group regularly putting on performances for school and community. There are four groups available to choose from that accept new members. The concert choir consists of 60-80 people that range from students to community members. Some of the recent performances in the '07-'08 school year consist of a Christmas medley at the annual winter concert and a world premiere of David Lantz's new song "When You Are Dead and Gone" and a performance of the Bach Magnificat with full orchestra at the spring concert. The group is currently led by Dr. James Maroney. Also, under the leadership of Dr. Maroney are the two elite groups selected from ESU students. The A Cappella Ensemble and the Pop/Jazz Singers are two groups the perform on numerous occasions. The two groups embarked on a nine day performance tour to China in May, 2008 to Shenyung Normal University. Upcoming tours include Toronto ('10), and England/Scotland ('11). Last but not least is the musical review. This is a student run professional production that reviews past musicals. The 2009 performance features songs from hit Broadway shows and popular movies including Wicked, Hairspray, Footloose, Aida, and Fame.

Marching Band

In 1976 and 1977 there were a group of students known as the Mad Hatters (led by "The Doctor") who marched from the off campus Lynstan Apartments into the stadium before the home football games playing music without instruments and wearing a strange assortments of hats. They were also well known for their silent Cheer during the football games.
The ESU Warrior Marching Band has been reintroduced to campus after a multi-year hiatus. Started in 2004 by the current Director of Bands, Dr. Otis C. French, the number of members has increased from around 15 to almost 100. The Warrior Marching Band has been a musical part of the music department and to the campus community. They participate in all home football games as well as select away games. They also participate in the annual Intercollegiate Marching Band Festival in Allentown, Pennsylvania and high school exhibitions throughout the season. Their band camp program allows students to move in their dorms a little over a week early. The Warrior Marching Band can be found at all pep rallies and spirit events for the championship football team during the season. They currently are the home of the Mu Epsilon chapter of the national co-ed band fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi
