 hockey championship. The 2011 Telus Cup was held in St.John's, Newfoundland, with the St.John's Privateers serving as the host team. It took place in April 2011.

The most recent winners of the Telus Cup are the Winnipeg Thrashers. They defeated the London Jr Knights.

1973-1978

The forerunner to the Air Canada Cup was the Wrigley National Midget Hockey Tournament which ran for five years, 1974 though 1978 inclusive. Prior to Wrigley, in 1973, the Prince Edward Island

The Wrigley was an invitational event at the time with regions declaring their respective champions with competition throughout the Christmas and New Years holidays within each of Canadian Hockey's 11 branch play-downs. A host team comprised the 12th competitor in the Wrigley played annually in January.

Each year, the winning team represented Canada in USSR for a series of games against elite teams, including the Soviet Midget Red Army in Moscow, Leningrad, and Riga. The Verdun Midget Maple Leafs won the first Wrigley championship in 1974, defeating Kingston Gurnsey Realtors of Ontario 5-3. The final game was televised live coast to coast by the CTV Television Network

. Media in USSR reported that the last game between the Leafs and the Red Army team in Moscow was viewed by more than 100 million people on Soviet Television - only 2 TV channels then in Russia. Verdun lost that game 6-5 against the National Russian Team.

1984

The Air Canada Cup was revised in 1984. It was revised to an annual competition involving five regional champions. The winners of those were declared by inter-branch play-downs. The sixth team in the competition is usually the host team. This format remains today.
