Geography

Sissach district has an area, , of 141 square kilometres (54.4 sq mi). Of this area, 69.56 km² (26.9 sq mi) or 49.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 55.98 km² (21.6 sq mi) or 39.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 15.06 km² (5.8 sq mi) or 10.7% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.25 km² (0.0965255396481338 sq mi) or 0.2% is either rivers or lakes and 0.13 km² (32.1 acre) or 0.1% is unproductive land.

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 5.6% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.4%. Out of the forested land, 38.0% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.7% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 19.7% is used for growing crops and 23.8% is pastures, while 5.8% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.
