in the early 1980s. Following Mary Beth's death in 1985, he successfully ran to succeed her as the MLA
for Kildonan, defeating Tory
Bev Rayburn by over 1,000 votes. He was re-elected over Rayburn by a greater margin in the provincial election of 1986
, though he was not appointed to Pawley's cabinet.

, Dolin suffered a surprise third-place finish in a close three-way race against Tory John Baluta and Liberal

, the winner. He has not sought a return to political life since then.
Dolin is currently a member of the Canadian Council for Refugees, the Interfaith Immigration Council (he himself is Jewish), and the Social Planning Council for the City of Winnipeg. In 1994, he published a work entitled Education in a Multicultural Society.
