Before 2007, the two free-to-air broadcasters transmitted television shows in analogue only.
In recent years, both free-to-air television broadcasters were allocated new frequency bands and extra bandwidth in addition to the simulcast frequency band (multi-frequency
) used for the original four analogue free-to-air channels. Digital broadcasts began on 31 December 2007. Analogue broadcasts are slated to be shut off in 2012.
