in the Mandarin language. It is one of six CCTV
channels that broadcasts outside of China, the other five being CCTV News

This channel contains a variety of programs including documentaries, music, news, dramas, sports, and cartoons.

In 2007, CCTV-4 launched 3 different timeshifted feeds: one for China Standard Time, Greenwich Mean Time
(GMT), and Eastern Standard Time
(EST). This schedule accommodates Chinese people abroad to be able to watch the same programs that mainland Chinese people watch on a similar daylight schedule. The program schedules do not adjust according to daylight saving time
, so programs will either appear 1 hour ahead or 1 hour behind around the changeover in March and November on the "New York Time Zone" (纽约时间) (otherwise known as Eastern Standard/Daylight

Corruption in CCTV-4 Overseas Programs
CCTV-4 had launched several attempts to provide free TV program worldwide. However, it hired friends and family members took the money and using those opportunity to make huge profit for themselves. Around year 2000, CCTV-4 offered free TV programs through satellite. But those persons operated the satellite programs sold its programs with some other Chinese TV program to a commercial TV satellite provider as "Great Wall" package and getting paid regularly. CCTV-4 then was no longer broadcast over the free satellite. Chinese people living in USA wrote letters to the Chinese government complained for shutdown free TV programs, since almost all countries around the world offer free TV programs to their people living aboard. Around 2010, CCTV-4 paid WCETV (operated by friends and relative of CCTV officers) to carry its program over off-air through KVMDKVMD
