A CubeSat is a type of miniaturized satellite for space research that usually has a volume of exactly one liter , has a mass of no more than 1.33 kilograms, and typically uses commercial off-the-shelf electronics components...

 nanosatellites. CubeSats are small satellites used primarily by universities for research missions, typically in low Earth orbits.

There are four types of CubeSats; 0.5U, 1U, 2U and 3U. The number corresponds to the length of the CubeSat in decimetre
