Controversies

On October 3, 1989, Sakic and Swift Current Broncos teammate Wade Smith were charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in Swift Current, Saskatchewan

The trial took place in January 1990. The players agreed that they had done everything to the girl that she described, which included penetration in three orifices, and admitted that "there had been blood

." It was revealed during the trial that the accuser bled heavily the night of the alleged rape and continued to bleed intermittently for the next two days. They said she begged for more. The girl said she begged them to stop and was terrified.
