The fourth season of America's Best Dance Crew
premiered on August 9, 2009. All three judges and host Mario Lopez
and backstage correspondent Layla Kayleigh
from the previous seasons signed on for season 4. However, for the first time since the beginning of ABDC, DJ Rashida was not present as the show's DJ, as she was touring with Lady GaGa
and JabbaWockeeZ
. Preceding the first broadcast, MTV announced in a broadcast trailer that the show would be moving to its new Sunday night slot at 9pm ET/PT for the duration of the season. In Canada, MuchMusic
aired this season at the same time as its MTV broadcast. In previous seasons, it was aired 3 days after MTV aired it. Unlike previous seasons, there was no live audition special. On September 27, 2009, We Are Heroes
was declared the winner of Season 4 and received the $100,000 (USD
) prize.
On August 2, 2009, as a prologue for the season four, the show premiered a special hosted by Randy Jackson called "The Top 10 Performances of All Time" where Randy showed his top 10 picks of the first three seasons.
This was also the last season to feature Shane Sparks as a judge.

; and Los Angeles, California
) and were recently announced by MTV.
New York's Vogue Evolution made ABDC history as the first group featuring five openly gay members; one of them being a transgender female. We Are Heroes
of Los Angeles made ABDC history as well by becoming the first all-female crew to win the title of America's Best Dance Crew.
The 9 crews performed to a song of their choosing. The bottom three were chosen by the judges and danced in a battle for 30 seconds each to a mastermix of "Boom Boom Pow
" by The Black Eyed Peas

challenges from seasons 1-3, the crews took inspiration and were given a challenge from Beyoncé's music videos and tour performances. Beyoncé herself gave each crew their challenges through a video.
The crews emulated martial arts in their routine. Quest Crew
's Steve Terada appeared as a guest instructor.
The six remaining crews were challenged to infuse the dance moves of the popular Bollywood culture in India with their routines. In order to learn the complex Indian-themed dance style, the crews met with renowned Bollywood choreographer Nakul Dev Mahajan
.
The five remaining crews were given some of the nation's hottest dance crazes, including the Stanky Legg and Jerkin'. Similar versions of this challenge were used in the three previous seasons. The crews also had use the trampoline built into the stage in their routines.
Week 6: VMA
The episode was aired on September 13 as part of the VMA lineup. The episode aired at 7PM/6C, one hour before the VMA preshow. The final four crews paid homage to the most memorable VMA performances of all time. The four crews performed together in an opening number to "Smooth Criminal

This week on ABDC, the crews competed against each other in two challenges: the Decade of Dance challenge, in which the crews danced to a master mix of five songs from the past five decades, and the Last Chance Challenge.
The eliminated crews of season 4 returned and teamed up with the remaining two crews for the judge's choice of crews collaboration. The judges each picked three crews that complemented each other and their dance-styles. Instead of going head-to-head, AfroBoriké and We Are Heroes teamed up for their last performance.
On September 27, 2009, We Are Heroes
was crowned the winner of America's Best Dance Crew Season 4, while AfroBoriké was declared the runner-up.
