. The top business stories in each continent are then narrated in turn.

The first half-hour also features the program's signature segment, the fast-paced "Global Stock Watch". Breaking news on European economic data is frequently covered 30 minutes into the show, and is followed by instant analysis with a guest. The remainder of the program consists largely of a mix of business headlines (which are repeated in the second hour), interviews with guests and issue-specific dispatches from CNBC reporters.

As of 2009, Worldwide Exchange features guest hosts in the second hour (and as of December 14, 2009, both hours) of the programme.

Two regular segments which appear towards the end of the broadcast are a preview of Squawk Box

, (which immediately follows Worldwide Exchange in the US and Asia), and the "US Lookahead."

At the end of the broadcast, before the three anchors sign off, the U.S. anchor takes a final look at US stock futures if time permits.

Current format (March 28, 2011 to present)

On March 28, 2011, Worldwide Exchange underwent a major overhaul. The first 50 minutes of the program is now initially broadcast from Asia and Europe, with the United States leg of the show starting at 50 minutes past the first hour. The three anchors are now together for just 20 minutes, from :50 past the first hour to :10 past the second hour. Also, the Asian leg of Worldwide Exchange is no longer featured after :10 past the second hour, to which the duration of the show is broadcast only from Europe and the United States from that point on.

Additionally, the second hour of Worldwide Exchange is no longer broadcast on CNBC Asia.

Segments

Some of the regular segments on Worldwide Exchange include:
  • Global Stock Watch: This segment, seen after the first commercial break, begins with a summary of ongoing trading in the European markets, along the latest from CNBC Europe's reporters, followed by the final closing numbers in the Asian markets from a CNBC Asia reporter, and concluding with a look at the highlights of the U.S. corporate and economic diaries by the U.S. host. A second Global Stock Watch airs in the second hour as of mid-October 2007.

Graphics

Program producer CNBC Europe developed a new graphic style for the launch of the show on 2005-12-19, similar to that introduced across CNBC US on the same date. These graphics were initially used only on Worldwide Exchange, before being rolled out to all other CNBC Europe programs on 2006-09-18 and were used through 2008-01-04. The previous lower thirds, which were first used across CNBC US on 2006-12-19, were used on Worldwide Exchange (and all other CNBC Europe programs) from 2008-01-07 to 2009-07-24.

The programme's previous graphics package, which included a new intertitle and a new voiceover introduction (but retaining the lower thirds from 28 July 2009 to 26 February 2010), debuted 14 December 2009. The current graphics package for this and all of the other CNBC Europe programmes, including the new lower thirds, debuted 1 March 2010. This new graphic style also debuted on CNBC US that same day.

Tickers

The respective regional tickers are retained in each of the channels during the broadcast, except for CNBC World, which features the CNBC Europe ticker to show that the programme is produced by the said network. CNBC HD+ used to show the CNBC Europe ticker until August 8, 2011.

Market holidays

On European bank holidays, CNBC Asia has the option of producing the program instead, as occurred on 26 December 2007, 24 March 2008 and 6 April 2010. Alternatively, the show is simply not aired (as is the case on Christmas and New Year's Day). When the US markets are closed for a holiday while the Asian and European markets are open, Worldwide Exchange is broadcast live from Asia and Europe (similar to Capital Connection

), but is still relayed live on CNBC's US channel albeit without US presenters, as occurred on 26 November 2009. During some Asian holiday periods (such as May 1), no Asian presenters are featured, although it can still be seen in the region.

With the program's March 28, 2011 overhaul, it is unknown if either CNBC Asia or CNBC US will have the option produce the show during future European bank holidays.
