Westfield Galleria at Roseville (formerly called Galleria at Roseville) is an upscale shopping mall
in Roseville, California
, United States. Owned by the Westfield Group, it is located at the corner of Galleria Boulevard and Roseville Parkway at the junction of State Route 65
and Interstate 80

. After a long and tedious process, the Rocklin plans were scrapped and were submitted to Roseville. On July 25, 1995, a phased mall with three anchors was approved. On June 25, 1998, after stronger than anticipated demand, a single phase mall with four anchors was approved after Nordstrom
committed to building a store as the fourth anchor. The $100 million Galleria at Roseville was built and opened in 2000 by Urban Retail Properties, Inc., anchored by Macy's

In 2000, Urban was acquired by Rodamco North America, N.V, a Netherlands-based real estate investment company. The center was subsequently sold to the Westfield Group in 2002 with the dissolution of Rodamco. At that time, the center was renamed "Westfield Shoppingtown Galleria at Roseville." Westfield dropped the "shoppingtown" part from its U.S. centers, and now the name is "Westfield Galleria at Roseville." Locals refer to it just as "The Galleria" or "Roseville Galleria" or "The Mall".
In April 2004, Westfield submitted plans to expand the 4 year old mall which was a victim of its own success. The Galleria had been losing out on new store concepts as the center remained nearly 100% occupied since its opening. After many changes to the original plan, the expansion was approved to consist of: expansion of Macy's, JCPenney, and Sears, space for 100 new stores, 2 parking garages, a new 50% bigger dining terrace consisting of 820 seats, relocation of Crate & Barrel, and numerous changes to the Promenade. The originally $150 million dollar plan, was scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009 at a final cost of $270 million.
In the summer of 2007, the Plateau Deck was completed and Westfield completed roadway improvements at the Galleria Blvd. offramp from southbound State Route 65, installed a roundabout at the Antelope Creek entrance, installed dual left turn lanes into the mall at the Reserve Drive and West Drive entrances from Roseville Parkway, and made many other changes to the Ring Road on the mall property to improve traffic flow around the new parking structures.
2008 marked the Galleria's first year of substantial business closures. Wilson's Leather, Crescent Jewelers, KB Toys and Whitehall Jewelers all closed; however, all those closures were due to complete company liquidations and had nothing to do with their performance at their Galleria locations. McDonald's was bought and closed by Westfield to facilitate the mall construction and to provide additional parking in the future. Despite the closures, Cheesecake Factory opened their new restaurant separate from the expansion that was under construction at the time.A Borders
bookstore used to anchor the outdoor Promenade at its south end. It closed in early 2008 due to corporate restructuring and because of its close proximity to another Roseville-area Borders store less than 3 miles away. After a period of vacancy, Urban Outfitters
opened in July 2009 in the space previously leased by the bookstore. On November 13, 2008, the $190 million phase 1 of the $270 million expansion opened to 42 new and relocated stores as well as the Cliff Deck. In the Fall of 2008, Westfield Galleria at Roseville surpassed Arden Fair Mall
as the largest mall in the Sacramento metropolitan area
both in size and number of stores. Although in a suburb of Sacramento, some high-end stores have chosen Roseville over Sacramento due to the better demographics and strong retail pull of Roseville.
A Copeland's Sports used to anchor the Promenade. This location weathered numerous store closures until Copeland's was completely shut down. The site functioned as the mall office, and Restoration Hardware
storage until construction began on transforming it into a XXI Forever
flagship which opened in November 2009. 2009 saw the opening and relocation of numerous stores, continuing through to the end of the year, bringing the total number of stores to nearly 250.
A police standoff and fire in October 2010 further impacted the stores in the mall. In December 2010, to commemorate the community support and gradual re-opening of the mall in time for the holiday season, the Sacramento Choral Society arranged for a "flash mob" to suddenly and unexpectedly sing the Hallelujah Chorus to mall-goers. The turnout was so significant, that mall officials and law enforcement felt that the number of people in the mall exceeded the maximum capacity, especially since not all of the mall was entirely re-open yet from the fire two months prior. As a result, the mall was evacuated for the remainder of the evening, further hurting pre-Christmas sales. The crowd moved into the parking garage and surrounding areas, and continued to sing.
2011 continues the mall's redistricting strategy, accelerated by the gutting of one wing of the mall. New stores are still coming to the Galleria despite the fire. New stores that have opened thus far include: Jelly Belly and Michael Kors. COACH and J. Jill have replaced their burned stores with new locations within the mall. The only closing this year has been by Johnston & Murphy. Buckhorn Grill, The Art of Shaving, Bose, and Porsche Design are just a few of the new stores that will be opening up this Fall. Disney has announced that their store will be reopening in the Fall as one of their new "Imagination Park" concept stores.
tennis team has announced that the Galleria will be the new home for Capitals Stadium (known as Allstate Stadium from 2003–2009). They committed to at least five years at the new stadium. The World Team Tennis
Championships were also be held at the Galleria. The stadium held up to 5,000 spectators. Plans were to expand the facility to accommodate 10,000 spectators. For the 2007 season, the Capitals starred Anna Kournikova and guest player Lindsay Davenport.
The Sacramento Capitals won the World Team Tennis 2007 championship on their home court in Roseville in front of over 4,000 fans. Allstate Stadium was once again chosen to host the championships for the 2008 season. In 2010, Allstate elected not to renew their naming rights deal, and the stadium is now known as Capitals Stadium at the Westfield Galleria at Roseville and was downsized due to lack of attendance. In 2011, it was announced that the Capitals would be returning to their original home to Sunrise Mall in neighboring Citrus Heights.

The suspect claimed that his "sister had been kidnapped by aliens", then told employees to exit the GameStop, at which point, he barricaded himself in the GameStop and set fire to the merchandise. SWAT, firemen and the police arrived after a call, and a standoff occurred outside the GameStop while the mall was evacuated. The suspect, Alexander Piggee, 23 years old at the time, was caught and arrested. The bomb squad had tried to search the backpack, but their attempt was stopped when the fire unexpectedly erupted again, after having been quieted down by the sprinklers. The fire caused significant damage to part of the mall, but was brought under control after approximately four hours. It has been reported that the night before he had set a fire in an Antelope

and police were already searching for him. Piggee had also set fire to his grandmother's house the week before the incident at the Galleria Mall. No injuries were reported during these incidents.

declared a state of emergency in Placer County the day after the fire. Roseville city officials have said that as many as 40 stores in the undamaged sections of the mall reopened on Thursday, October 28. Another 80 Stores, including Macy's were re-opened by Thanksgiving and the 40 stores near the fire area plan to be reopened after the first of the year. On October 28 the undamaged part of the mall re-opened, and two days later a party was held at the mall to celebrate the reopening, as well as Halloween and to get support in the rebuilding of the mall.
As of March 2011, 160 stores are now open. It's been announced that the damaged wing of the mall will be rebuilt and reopened on October 6, 2011. While most of the retailers will be returning either to their original locations or be in new locations, other stores won't be returning. Lane Bryant, FYE and Anchor Blue announced that they would not be returning when the damaged wing reopens. Some of the new retailers include Champs Sports, Porsche Design and Samuels Jewelers.
Alexander Piggee subsequently pleaded guilty to setting the fire, and Federal Judge John Mendez sentenced Piggee to 15 years, after which he will be on probation for 6 years. Both defense and prosecution attorneys had requested a sentence of 10 years, but Mendez issued a substantially longer sentence, calling Piggee a threat to public safety.

Westfield Galleria is home to many community events, including The Volunteer Boutique and the Dream, Play, House. In 2006, The Dream, Play, House event helped raise over $110,000 for the Placer County Child Abuse Prevention Council.
