Campus

The college has about 2800 students, 225 faculty members, 67 laboratories, and 150 administrative and supportive staff.

Spread over an area of 7 acres (28,328 m²), the academic area consists of four major buildings. The campus has a canteen that remains open during the college hours, and an auditorium.

The students hostel and the sports ground are off-campus, on an area of 10 acres (40,468.6 m²). The hostel is equipped with Wi-Fi (which never works) for students and a mess. It is located about 1.5 km from the academic area.

GEM and VIT have a Memorandum of Understanding allowing a Student Exchange Program, where students studying in seven GEM affiliated schools in France, send their students to VIT and students in the third year (T.E.) of their Bachelor's degree at VIT, go to France for one semester. The first batch completed its studies abroad in Jan-May 2009. This association also encourages higher learning (postgraduate) in GEM schools across France.

This annual event is a mixture of cultural, technical and sporting competitions, where students from colleges across India come to participate.
  • Vishwakarandak

This annual event is the flagship cultural event on the campus, culminating with the college gathering. The participants are restricted to students of VIT and the competitions are held between the departments.

Companies such as Avaya, Amdocs, IBM,Starent Networks, VMware, Accenture, CGI Group Inc., Sasken, Persistent Systems, Symantec, TCS, and Cognizant, are a few of the companies that recruit undergraduates from VIT. As of 2008-09, the average salary of a placed undergraduate was Rs. 3.5 lakh, with a maximum salary of Rs. 28 lakh.
