Provo High School

Provo High School is a public secondary school located in Provo, Utah
. It is one of the schools in the Provo District. It is part of the Provo City School District, and is the oldest existent secondary school in the city. In 2007 PHS became the first "IB World School" in Utah County.
84. The team accomplished the feat on January 22, 1997 against its cross-town rival Timpview High School, which had recently restarted its own wrestling program after a several-year hiatus.
choir is an open enrollment class, and works as a starter for getting into the program. The other three choirs are audition only choirs. There is an Advanced Women's Ensemble (AWE) composed of female voices, usually anywhere from 25-30 members. There is also a Chamber Choir, a 28 member choir with seven tenors, seven altos, seven sopranos, and seven basses, referred to as "PHS Singers." This amazing choir has been invited to travel to NY and sing in Carnegie Hall under the direction of Dr. Andre Thomas as part of the National Youth Choir. They were also selected to be the featured choir for the performance and had their own 15 minute segment during the performance. While in New York, the Chamber Singers sang the national anthem on The Today Show on March 27, 2009. They also performed at the Empire State Building and Ground Zero. The largest choir is the Concert Choir, ranging from anywhere to 50 to 110 members. During the Concert Choir's tour to Seattle in 2008, the Chamber Singers were selected to sing the national anthem at a Seattle Mariners baseball game. The concert choir in the 2007–2008 school year was the highest ranked choir in the state receiving a 1,1 plus, and a 1 plus plus. They were voted the best high school choir in the state of Utah.

and received overwhelming praise from audiences. In January 2011 Provo High School was invited to perform their rendition of "Antigone" at the Utah Theatre Association Conference. He is currently directing Tartuffe

Perhaps Bauer's most notable predecessor was Ray B. Jones, who taught at the high school for 30 years. During at least a portion of that time, he produced 5 plays each year, including a musical and a Shakespeare play. Two plays that were also often used in English curricula at the high school or the junior high schools - "Our Town" and "Diary of Anne Frank" - were produced every four years so that all students in the district could see them.
Both Varsity and JV teams have traveled on trips to ST. George Utah and Rexburg Idaho. While the Varsity teams have traveled to San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Sacramento, Long Beach and Catalina Island. They have also been able to perform at Disneyland Resort in CA and at Disney's California Adventure. This year they will have the honor of performing on the Carnival Paradise Cruise liner in April.
Many of the alumni of this team have gone on to dance at Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University
on their tour teams.
s. The Wind Ensemble is the highest performing classical ensemble of the bands, and descends in the order of Symphonic and then Concert. The PHS Wind Ensemble was awarded staight Superiors at State Concert Band 2009 and received Excellent ratings at State Concert Band in 2008. The Jazz
Band has received state and nationwide recognition, has one of the best trumpet sections in the state, and is the most advanced instrumental musical group in the school. In 2008, Provo High Marching Band placed first four times, with drumline winning best in class four times and Color Guard also winning best in class at Bridgerland. During the 2009 season, the PHS Marching band won 1st place at four competitions. In 2010; the band won 1st in class AAA at the BYU Marching Band Invitational, Timpanogos Marching Competition, and Bolder City Invitational, 2nd in class AAA at the Davis Cup and 3rd in class AAA at both the Nebo Competition and Riverton Marching. The band was also awarded multiple Music, Visual, Percussion and General Effect captions during the 2010 season.
, Provo High has long operated as an informal local training ground for BYU's student teachers. From 1996 to 1999, PHS and BYU entered into a formal partnership with two primary goals: to improve the student teacher program and to work at retaining ninth grade students, who are statistically most likely to drop out of school.

The Provo High Soccer team is currently coached by Cesar Cardoso. The team took third in state in 2006-07.Track and Cross Country
Both boys and girls track and cross country teams have been at the top of the region consistently. Their achievements include multiple region and state titles. The boys cross country and track teams most recently brought home the state title in 2005 and 2000, respectively.Basketball
Provo High has won more Utah state basketball championships than any other school (http://deseretnews.com/preprecords/). PHS won the state basketball championship in 1941, '44, '45, '56, '73, '74, '78, '81, '83, '85, '87, '95, '97, '98, '04, '07 and 08.(http://deseretnews.com/preprecords/) The team is coached by Craig Drury who has won more Utah State high school basketball titles than any other coach in Utah. Baseball
Provo High won the State Championship in 1997. Provo High finished 3rd in state in 2007. They were coached by Lance Moore, who won the 2007 4A coach of the year. The 2008 Bulldogs did not make the playoffs as expected with injuries and grade issues being contributing factors. They are building a new baseball field.Tennis
Provo High's boys and girls tennis teams have been great. Coach Clark and Coach Collinsworth are currently the coaches for the teams. Both of the coaches are great and both have given great help to their players. The teams practice hard and strive to do better. The whole team enjoys going to matches and having a great time!Choir

Ballroom
Angela Williams is the current head ballroom coach at Provo High School and has been since the 2000-2001 school year. In 2008–2009, the Varsity team placed second in Division 1 at the National Amateur Dancesport Championships with their Mary Poppins Standard Medley and they also placed Fifth in Division 1 with their all new Queen Latin Medley, while the Junior Varsity team placed Second Division 2 with their Mission Imposible Latin Medley (which the Varsity team debued back in 2001) and Third with their Music of Majesty Standard Medley. Orchestra
Provo High's orchestra program is under the direction of Alan Allred, who began teaching at Provo High starting in 2010. He is also the Orchestra director at Timpview High School as well. The current program includes a Concert Orchestra and a Philharmonic Orchestra.IB
Provo High School has the one of only International Baccalaureate programs in Utah county. The program is similar to AP in the classes that are offered, with some course material varying from AP's curriculum. The largest difference from AP, however, is that the program is ment to be a full-subject 'curriculum bundle'. PHS Automotive
The automotive program at Provo High School is instructed by Coleman McVea. Provo High School automotive has won a significant amount of automotive contests on a regional level as well as a state level under the direction of McVea. In 2008, Provo High School students took first place in the Weber State University Automotive Contest, beating 24 teams from Utah, Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming. This is the best Provo High has ever done in this contest.Live Interactive/Concurrent Enrollment
Jeri Marshall is the coordinator for Live Interactive and Concurrent Enrollment. Students are able to to take a class and receive college credit from Utah Valley University. These students must have a certain GPA and are typically Juniors and Seniors. Many students take advantage of this program and can earn anywhere from three credit hours to 30 credit hours.AP
Provo High School has many AP classes available to students in all subjects: English, Art, Science, Social Studies, and Technology. These AP classes are college material. An AP test allows students to receive college credit, provided they score a 3 or higher. Students taking an AP class are highly recommended to take an AP test at the end of the year, even if they do not pass the test.
