This setback in victory was difficult not only on the Serb land of Montenegro and its people, but also on Petar I himself. Montenegro had thereby been deprived of an outlet to the sea, to the world, and was once again bound in shackles. The Bay of Kotor remained under foreign rule, deprived of even of those privileges its towns and captains had enjoyed under the Republic of Venice
