Preservation of Monuments Act
Under section 9 of the Preservation of Monuments Act, buildings gazetted as National Monuments cannot be "demolished, removed, altered or renovated or have any addition made" without the prior written permission of the PMB, "except in case of urgent and immediate necessity for the safety of persons or property." The penalty for breaking this law is a fine of up to S$Singapore dollar
