, and then resetting at 2pm and 10pm.

The network's logo has remained the same since the date of launch, with a minor readjustment in February 2010 of the iconic "M" to remove the Music Television tagline and a small quarter of the logo in line with the official rebranding of all MTV networks.

Programming

When MTV Hits launched in 2002, programming consisted of non-stop music videos. At the same time to promote the new network, MTV had a show of the same name. The network consisted of current hit music videos, along with a few older videos from earlier in the year, as well as a few from the late 90's. The network was commercial free, with the exception of a few promos for MTV products. In 2008 the network was no longer commercial free and regular length commercial breaks began to appear after every 3 videos. Currently, regular blocks of music in addition to themed blocks such as "Boys Of Summer", "Unplugged" or "VMA Performances" air every other hour.

Hit Lists

In 2005, the network began airing a feature called "My Hitlist Month" which was based on viewer selected playlists, submitted to a newly launched network website. This, as well as artist selected playlists aired occasionally on the network through 2006.

Playlistism

December 18, 2006, the "Hit List" theme returned to MTV Hits. At first "Playlistism" consisted of replays of the viewer hit lists from the past, as well as new playlists of sister networks MTV2

as well as artist and themed playlists. Over time the playlists began to become less innovative and New Year's Eve 2009 did not receive a special New Year's Eve playlist like in 2007 and 2008. This has led to the possible end of Playlistism which is listed below.

End Of Playlistism

The network continued ending many of the playlist shows throughout 2009 and 2010, while keeping the Playlistism name until it faded out entirely as of late January 2011, when the network restored their former 'illiustration from a music box' imaging to identify the network between commercial blocks. The lower-left banner which formerly listed playlist dedications is now solely dedicated to promotional messages and a rolling advertisement for the network's music video web portal."MTV Hits Playlist" has been renamed "Music Mix" which consists of the original MTV Hits format though so far without the older music videos. Theme blocks have also emerged such as
  • Music Mix:Standard blend of music and was the old format of the network before playlistism. older videos now air as of June 2011,and the top Spanish videos also air.
  • MTV2 Sucker Free (formerly Rap Attack): Features a mix of hip hop and R&B music videos, past and present.
  • MTV Hits Top 10 Countdown: A new episode airs every Monday and features the weeks top 10 music videos.
  • Latest And Greatest: Formerly known as "latest and greatest playlist" this features back to back videos of chosen artists. The videos played are usually the artist's current hit plus an older top hit.
  • Killa Collabs: A block of videos featuring artist collaborations (the Last one was dominated by videos containing Chris brown).
  • Brand New Hits: A block of videos that features the latest music videos.

Another feature is weekly Video Premieres, each premiere airs at the top of each hour throughout the day. AMTV

also air video premieres on the hour on a weekly basis.

Average Daily Schedule

The network begins its schedule at 6AM Eastern Time (5AM Central Time) and runs hour blocks for 8 hours. It repeats 3 times daily beginning at 6AM Eastern (5AM Central), 12PM Eastern (11AM Central), and 10PM Eastern (9PM Central) with a fresh schedule the same time the next morning.

As of 2010, themed blocks and generic "Music Mix" similar to that of the original format fills the schedule. MTV News segments and various non-MTV related commercials began airing on the network in 2009. Prior to this, the network had no non-MTV related advertisements.

MTV Hits has the least variety in its playlist out of all the other MTV digital networks, focusing mostly on the newest chart topping videos. Older music videos are now played across all themed blocks including latest and greatest, Artist Collection, and select Hitlists (but still are dominated with recent videos notably by or featuring Chris Brown).
