Lockport is a small unincorporated community in Manitoba

located just north of the city of Winnipeg
. It is the site of ancient agricultural inhabitation, a migratory bird (the American White Pelican
) feeding area as well as a dam and lock of the Red River
. The Red River Floodway
joins the Red River just down river from the dam. The bridge and locks at Lockport (completed in 1910), submerged the St. Andrews Rapids (a natural bridge) in order to make the Red River navigable both to and from Lake Winnipeg. A small Provincial Park exists in Lockport. It is part of the rural municipalities

Lockport is also known for having some of the best fishing in the world to both humans and birds. Specifically, the North Red River running through Lockport is known for some of the best fishing for trophy channel catfish. Lockport is an ancient settlement, predating European history by thousands of years. It is one of the oldest known settlements in Canada.
Interesting sites in Lockport include the A&W, Chubb's, Gaffer's Restaurant, Half Moon, Papa Carlo's, Rembrandt's, Skinner's, Sonia's and Subway Restaurants, famous for summer evening drives from Winnipeg. Some other successful businesses located in Lockport include Heritage Golf Course and Driving Range, Eveline Street Boutique, Lockport Grocery and Liquor Mart, and Lockport Wave Beauty Salon. There are also local strawberry patches that are open during the summer months for strawberry picking. Other tourist attractions include the National Historical Park, Lower Fort Garry. This park is open during the spring, summer, and fall, and is the destination of many tourists and school field trips.
Winter brings recreational activities such as snowmobiling to the area. The Lockport Children's Festival continues the local carnival tradition.
On the grounds of Lockport Park is The Kenosewun Centre which is a museum containing local history. In addition Kennedy House Museum just south of Lockport on River Road tells the history of a 19th century Scottish/aboriginal family. Captain William Kennedy, Explorer, and entrepreneur built this gothic stone style home in 1866, which now houses the Maple Grove Tea Room.
It contains the Lockport Junior High School. It contains grades 7, 8, and 9, because the local high school (Lord Selkirk Comprehensive High School) cannot fit grade 9 inside its walls.
