Geography

Liesberg has an area, , of 12.49 square kilometres (4.8 sq mi). Of this area, 4.57 km² (1.8 sq mi) or 36.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 6.66 km² (2.6 sq mi) or 53.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.1 km² (0.424712374451789 sq mi) or 8.8% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.06 km² (14.8 acre) or 0.5% is either rivers or lakes and 0.12 km² (29.7 acre) or 1.0% is unproductive land.

Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 1.4% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 2.9% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.0%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 1.3% of the area Out of the forested land, 49.9% of the total land area is heavily forested and 3.4% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 8.6% is used for growing crops and 19.9% is pastures and 7.2% is used for alpine pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.

The municipality is located in the Laufen district, along the Blauen mountains. It consists of the haufendorf village (an irregular, unplanned and quite closely packed village, built around a central square) of Liesberg and the hamlets
