In a June 8, 2009 online exclusive, Newsweek Magazine ranked Henrico High School number 928 in its 1500 top US high schools. Henrico High was the only Henrico County School to make the list in 2009. On October 10, 2007, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine

The school has recently added 2 new buildings to its campus, and has just finished remodeling its athletic building.

International Baccalaureate

Henrico High is a member of the International Baccalaureate Program. This program encompasses the MYP program for 9th and 10th grade students and the IB Diploma for the 11th and 12th graders. Throughout the program, a long list of assessments need to be completed for the international program, including personal projects, group 4 experiments, and the extended essays

. Henrico was the first high school to harbor the IB program, but Tucker soon followed after. Henrico is a better fit for IB, so that students who go from middle school into high school, doing IB will be able to attend the same high school together. If the IB program hadn't spread to Tucker, then Tucker would most likely have remained French and Spanish Immersion; nothing less, nothing more.

All areas cover a variety of topics that are relevant to their discipline with a variety of instructors, including guest artists like Tiffany Haas, who toured with Wicked as Glinda the year after she visited CFA. VMT students are trained in music, acting, dance, ensemble, and performance by Karen Moody. Vicki Fink teaches dance students ballet, modern, jazz, variety dance, composition, and performance. Visual artists cover topics such as art history, artist vocabulary, while developing artistic skills, develop their unique style of art to build a body of strong work that reflects themselves as artists and studying related areas. Theater involves becoming versed in acting, movement, improvisation, creative writing, dramatic literature, and performance with instruction from Todd Ritter. Showcases specified for each division during each semester are performed twice a year; one involving all divisions in the fall, and division specified showcases in the spring. Seniors in each division also have a showcase in the spring, displaying and reflecting their work in the Center over the past four years. Guest artists are often brought into class to enhance the learning experience of the Center students. Through the center, students are presented with many scholarship opportunities like working in the local area's arts fields and participating in internships. Currently, 100% of recent CFA graduates are in college. 70-80% end up studying their disciples on a university level. Graduates often end up at programs at NYU, UCLA, Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory, Christopher Newport University, James Madison University, and Belmont University.

Marching Warrior Band

Henrico High School has a great Marching Band, one of the best in Henrico County. The band was recently under the direction of John Scott and is composed of about 100 band members. As of July 2010, the band is under the direction of Hosea C Brower. The "Warrior Band" was ranked fourth in the country in 2006 (Alabama). The "300 Warrior Nation" came back to win the National Asymmetrix Competition in 2007 (Greensboro, North Carolina), claiming their title as "The Best Band In ALL The Land". The "Warrior Nation" set a record, being the first AA division band (relatively small) to win this national competition. They ranked third in the 2008 national competition. In the 2009 fall season the band has done much better, winning three out of four competitions thus far. Winning the national level competition in Atlanta, Georgia is their main goal.
