Despite being overwhelmingly Democratic in registration and the Democrats holding the commissioner majority and all row offices, Cambria is a swing county in statewide elections, with all four statewide winners carrying it in 2008. in 2000, but Bush carried it with 50.8% of the vote to 48.7% for John Kerry
