The 57th National Film Awards
is presented to the best of Indian Cinema released during the year 2009.
Couple of new awards has been introduced for Location Sound Recordist and Sound Designer in the Audiography category, for Background Score in addition to the existing award for Best Music Direction (Songs) and for Adapted Screenplay, Original Screenplay and Dialogues in place of the existing award for Best Screenplay and Dialogues.
A total of 20 films were awarded in the Feature Film category at the National Awards. Kutty Srank, which was also adjudged the best film, also bagged the maximum number of awards, five. Abohoman, Paa
and Keralavarma Pazhassiraja followed closely; with four awards each.

Feature Films
Films made in any Indian language shot on 16 mm, 35 mm or in a wider gauge or digital format but released on a film format or video/digital but certified by the Central Board of Film Certification as a feature film or featurette are eligible for Feature Film section.A total of 20 films were awarded in the Feature Film category at the National Awards.
