Born in July 1850 and educated at Eton
and Pembroke College, Oxford
, he was ordained in 1974. Following curacies
at Christ Church, West Bromwich
and All Saints, Bakewell
he was Secretary
to the Eton Mission, Hackney
until his elevation o the Episcopate as Bishop of Zululand
in 1889. He was translated
to Pretoria in 1902 and Cape Town
in 1909. He died on 14 February 1941. There is a memorial to him at St. George's Cathedral, Cape Town
