William Edward Mayes was an English

and a founder member of the Great Yarmouth
and Gorleston Art Societies.
Mayes was the second son of a sea captain, John Maurice Mayes. He married Rosanna Downing, daughter of another sea captain in 1884 and they had five children. Mayes was manager of the Yarmouth Foundry until he retired in the early 1920s. He died aged 91.
