History

The first ideas to open a Stockmann department store in Turku go back to the 1960s. In 1966, Oy Stockmann Ab bought a lot from the corner of Eerikinkatu and Brahenkatu and built the foundation of a new building there. The building of the department store was delayed because of archeological diggings and finally Stockmann established a department store in the place of the old City-Sokos

The largest renovations and expansions of the store were in the late 1990s and the early 2000s. The second floor was changed in 1997. From 1999 to 2000, the store got a total of 4420 m² more space, when the first phase of a large expansion project was completed. A new attic floor was built, containing the technical facilities previously situated on the third floor. The space previously used by the technical facilities was taken into use for sales.
