. Since 2009, the award is donated by Studio Babelsberg, the oldest large-scale film studio in the world. During the festival, the Shooting Stars are presented to the film industry (meetings with international casting directors, film directors and producers) as well as to the public and the international media (press conference, photo shootings).

Selection Process

Every EFP member organisation can nominate an actor or an actress from their country, who have to match the following criteria:
  • the actor/ actress has already established a successful professional career in his/her native country
  • is fluent in English
  • is not older than 35
  • has had a main role in a film which was released in the 12 months prior to nomination as a Shooting Star
  • is already well-known from a film which has received wide exposure (selected for different festivals, released in several countries)
