History

The township was organized between June 7 through 9th, 1824, and comprises land included in the Sandusky Plains of Ohio. Land in Scott Township is generally flat, with shallow slopes. Prairie grasses and other native plants were destroyed in its settlement; ditches were added to aid drainage of farm fields. The majority of farms in Scott Township today produce wheat

 (this same action also resulted in the building of Marion Engineering Depot). Families living within the boundaries of the facility were given less than 60 days to vacate their homes and farms. Following the end of the war, the land was sold back to the public, however by that time, many of the homes and farmsteads that had been within the site had been leveled by the US Army; few families who had lived in the area before the government action returned to the area having established themselves in other communities.

Government

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township fiscal officer, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the fiscal officership or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
