History

Samundri was on a major trade route during the reign of Sher Shah Suri

Description

Up to 1904 it was a tehsil in district Jhang. With the creation of Lyallpur district the samudri tehsil was transferred to this district. Total area of the tehsil was 499462 acres (2,021.3 km²) which was reduced to 222005 acres (898.4 km²) as a result of its bifurcation in 1994.

The land of the Tehsil Samundri is irrigated by Lower Gugera Branch canal and Burala Branch canal. All villages of the Tehsil carry G.B. with their Chak numbers, like Chak No 220 GB, Chak No 443 GB (Warraichan).Tehsil Samundri consists almost 134 villages,28 union councils and 49 patwar circles.

Grain Market of Samundri is prominent in Pakistan regarding its big area. Truck service with special writing on the bodies of truck, is also very popular in whole country. Sugar cane is the major cash crop of the area. Wheat, cotton and vegetables are also grown in the fertile lands of the tehsil. Samundri is situated at a distnce of 42 k.m. from Faisalabad. The only means of communication is by road. Katchery bazaar, mandi bazaar, nehar bazaar, qasim bazaar, kashmiri baza, sunny plaza and chaki bazaar are the important commercial areas in the town. In last few years anarkali bazar has become a most famous and commercial bazar of this city. Jinnah Market is the oldest market of the city. There is a great hustle and bustle in the bazar all year long. People come for the shopping from far away. Soloni jhal, khidirwala and muridwala are the famous road side bus stops. Now a clock tower is being built in center of city.

Education

Till 2008, Samundri was deficient in professional educational sector. There are merely two Govt. colleges one for boys and other for girls. The establishment of the Virtual University Campus (IEMS) in Samundri (PSMD01) has fetched a new perspective for the people of this zone. Now the students are studying different professional degree programs like MBA, MCS, MIT, BBA, BSCS, BSIT, B.Com, BS Phycology, BS Mass Communication etc. Virtual University of Pakistan was established by Govt. of Pakistan and its degree is HEC Approved & Recognized. This online mode of education has amplified the usage of computer and ultimately the computer literate people in Samundri. Samundari College OF Commerce is a college which provide commerce studies.

There are two Govt High Schools for boys and two for girls in Samundri. A number of private schools are too playing an important role in improving the education level of Samundri. Some students from Samundri are going in different other cities like Islamabad Fiasalabad and Lahore for their education.
