He will return to the professional circuit for the first time since 2008, after qualifying for the 2011 PDC UK Open

Positive drugs test

It was after the tournament where the problems began. A random drugs test showed he tested positive for a banned substance and he was fined £3,000, forced to return his £4,000 prize money from the UK Open and was suspended by the Darts Regulation Authority. He also lost sponsorship as a result. He still managed to play in tournaments, qualifying for the International Darts League

 and had another UK Open campaign, but a shortage of sponsorship money forced him to play fewer tournaments.

Switch to BDO

On 22 January 2008, Green became one of only a handful of players to switch from the PDC to the rival BDO. His first tournament with the BDO was the Scottish Open on 17 February where he reached the second round. Robbie recently returned to his Merseyside roots, after a spell playing for Cheshire and now he plays county darts for Merseyside

Victory would have ensured Green a place in the 2010 BDO World Championships. A couple of weeks later, Green did managed to secure qualification for the World Championship. In the first match on the Lakeside

Green continued his good form the following season and once again made it to the World Championship in 2011, this time as a seeded player. He comfortably defeated stand-by qualifier Andy Boulton

 3-0 in the first round, but was defeated 4-1 in the second round by third seed Dean Winstanley

. He won his first tournament in 2011 - the Scottish open - defeating Clive Bardon 5-4 in the final. This success led to him becoming world #1 for a brief period.

Personal life

Away from the oche, Green earns his living as a courier. His son Jamie is a promising dart player who already plays in the Merseyside Superleague. Robbie supports his hometown team, Liverpool
