Early life

Azim is the eldest child of the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam. He is one of twelve siblings. He was educated at St. Andrew's School, Brunei

 (Oxford, England). To instil greater discipline in him, the Sultan of Brunei sent him to attend the nine-month officer training course of the Royal Military College at Sandhurst, England. (The current Sultan had attended just such a course in his younger days, as Crown Prince of Brunei). However, Azim left Sandhurst after one week. His stint there was the shortest of any member of the world's royal families. Prince Azim suffered from a heart arrhythmia problem which was surgically corrected in the USA when he was younger.

Locally, Prince Azim is a benevolent prince who cares for the society. He has been accompanying royal visits to seminars, including the 'International Seminar on Understanding the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jama'ah' held in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Da'wah Centre'. Prince Azim also launched the Coworth Park Hotel, a BIA-owned property in Berkshire, London.

In May 2011, Prince Azim said that the autistic should be treated with respect, 'as would to any of your family members'.

Charity

He fills his time with charity work, mostly seen helping with the handicapped societies. Most notably, he was the guest of honour at the "Seeing is Believing" fundraiser in Brunei

In 2007, he walked on the catwalk for Naomi Campbell
