The site was selected at Edmonton International Airport, since it is the fastest growing (by passenger) and largest (by area) major airport in Canada, according to the airport authority.

In 2007, a 13,000 sq. meter dedicated new cargo apron was built. In 2008, 3000 acres (12.1 km²) were under a development plan.
