Pilsen Callao is a Peru

that was first brewed in 1863. The original Brewery of ¨Compañia Nacional de Cerveza¨ was in Callao's district of Bellavista. Upon being bought by Backus and Johnston it was sold and recently demolished to build a Super Market Tottus. Nevertheless the production of the beer in the original brewery of Bellavista was already very small, for nearby a bigger modern facility was built: ¨Cerveceria Moldelo¨ The label had a small print on the bottom indicating Bellavista or Modelo, this practice was later dropped as the consumers preferred the Bellavista kind upon the believe that it was of superior taste. The downfall of Compañia Nacional de Cerveza occurred when a whole production batch went sour and it made it to the market anyway. The purported explanation was that this batch was not made from wheat, but rather from decomposing rice left to rot in Callao port. The consumers loyalty to the product was destroyed and this facilitated its bitter competitor Backus and Johnson (producers of rival beer Cristal) to buy the business. It is currently brewed by Backus and Johnston
