The freedom struggle

  • 1916 - Joined HomeRule, League with Lokmanya Tilak
  • 1920 - Gave up sweet & sugar intake at the request from Mahatma Gandhi
  • 1920-25 - Published Hindi newspaper 'Swaraja Prapti' & 'Free India' in English using own money and resources
  • 1925 - Arrested for the first time by British forces for being part of Freedom Struggle
  • 1934 - Established 'Rashtra Seva Mandal' at Jhansi. Founded Ayurvedic College 'Acharya Dhulekar Ayurvedic College'
  • 1937-44 - Went to jail for continuing participation in Freedom movement
  • 1937 - Elected as Congressman in UP Legislative Assembly
  • 1939-44 - House arrested for Anti-Imperialism activities

  • 1946 - Presented a bill to make Hindi, the national language.
Bill was passed in constituent assembly with an addition that it Hindi will become the national language after 15 years (in 1965). But Hindi never became the national language after the protests in Tamil Nadu (Anti Hindi Agitation of 1965).
