 department was established in 1963 and since then, has won Olympic distinctions (3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals), 2 gold medals in World Championships as well as 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal in European Championships. It should be noted that the sailing department successfully organized the FINN World Championships in 1998 and 2002 at the club's new marine training facilities in Alexandras Square, Piraeus. The leading athlete in the FINN Category is World Champion and Olympiacos athlete, Aimilios Papathanassiou.
