History

In September, 1911, the town of Vila Bela was created by Francisco dos Santos. In April, 1917 Vila Bela was elevated to "Police district" with the name of Pitangueiras. The village of Pitangueiras was officially established as a district of São José do Rio Preto

The emancipation and establishment as a municipality happened in December 19, 1925. In March 22, 1926, Nova Granada gains its municipal chamber.
