History

Though founded in 1879, there is much confusion of who owns the actual rights to the brand name "Nivada". They display the line at the Swiss Basel Watch & Jewelry Fair every year.

In 1879, Nivada started as a small family business, but almost disappeared by the 1990s. During the late 90's Salinas Pliego and its company Grupo Salinas bought the brand from its original owners in Switzerland, the company was reborn and moved to Mexico in 2000. However by late 2000s was again sold to Omega SA and is currently housed in their building, the brand focus now is to sell entry level watches. The brand has since grown to be one of the top Swiss watch manufacturers in Mexico and has become internationally recognized in recent years.
