, San José. Nature Air claims to be the world's first carbon neutral airline.

History

The airline was established and started operations in 1991 and was formerly known as Travelair.. In 2000 the airline changed owners and was named Nature Air. In 2004 they became the World's first Carbon Neutral airline through a government certified compensation program. The airline tallies total tons of carbon released from the fuel burned each year in flight and ground operations. They then donate annual funds to FONAFIFO, a forest financing division of the Environment Ministry, to preserve important tracts of rainforest land in the Osa Peninsula.

To improve fuel efficiency a total of 7%, the airline has optimized flight schedules and routes, in-flight procedures and has minimized taxi time on the runways. Aerotica, a division of Nature Air, produces biodiesel
