were once located in this area, so the community name came from the Spanish
word for orange, "naranja". Naranja was also a stop for the Florida East Coast Railroad that once ran through this area. The population was 4,034 at the 2000 census.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 39.5% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 14.0% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who were 65 years of age or older.
