Crime

From 1 January 2006 to 1 January 2007 there were 3 reports of aboriginal people committing robberies and muggings in MacCabe park. Also on Sunday 21 September 2008 11 local teenagers were reported to have been smoking the illegal drug marijuana in clear sight of everyone in this park in broad daylight. These teenagers are reported by police to have been from Keira high school and Edmund Rice high school. This along with the aboriginal crime in this park has sparked outrage in the Wollongong community and the police along with the Wollongong city council have made up a task force of 2 police officers visiting the park every hour and 5 emergency distress phones to be built around the park by 6 May 2009. This is hoped to decrease the crime rate in the park by up to 87%.
