In that date, Rodrigo's title was changed, by King John V of Portugal, from Marquis of Fontes
to Marquis of Abrantes, once he descended, by female line, from the prestigious Counts of Abrantes
, an old line already extinct.
Two of the Marchioness of Abrantes had their title upgraded to the duchess rank (only during her lives), when they became the queen's Maid of Honour (Camareira-Môr), the highest palatine office for a lady.
