by the local synod of the Antiochian Archdiocese and consecrated in Damascus in December 5, 2004, by His Beatitude Ignatius IV of Antioch

. His see included Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin and oversaw around 50 parishes and missions.
In late October 2010, Bishop Mark refused a reduction to auxiliary bishop and transfer to Eagle River, Alaska, choosing instead to ask for canonical release to the Orthodox Church in America. The release was granted, and Bishop Mark was subsequently accepted into the OCA, becoming an auxiliary bishop to Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen)
. He was assigned the see of Baltimore and became administrator of the OCA's Diocese of the South
for several months.
